The playgroup organizes sessions so those children can choose from and work at a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to work through a task and complete it. The children are helped and encouraged to take part in adult led small and large group activities, which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills. This also helps them to learn how to work with others.
Playgroup has space inside and outside so that the children can enjoy physical play activities. These activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. A typical session will generally follow this pattern:
- Free play & craft activity small group time
- Singing time
- Snack time
- Large group time
- Physical activity
- Story time
We have a pre-school session on Wednesday for children that are getting ready to start school. This runs from 9.15 to 3.15. This session is designed to encourage children to socialize with their peers, turn taking, develop more independence, and extend their listening, literacy and concentration skills. It will also give the children more challenging activities which are adult directed.
Playgroup provides aprons for the children when they play with messy activities. Please send your child in clothes, which you do not mind if they get messy.
Playgroup’s policy for taking children to the toilet is that the child must tell a staff member if they would like to go to the toilet. A staff member who is CRB checked will take the child to the toilet. If a child wets themselves the child will be treated with sympathy and understanding. If you have any concerns please speak to a member of staff.
Playgroup makes snack time a social time at which children eat together. The snack we provide is healthy and nutritious usually fruit and raisins. We also provide milk or water for the children to drink. Please tell us if your child has dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met.
We will celebrate a child’s birthday at playgroup. We would welcome some small cakes for the children to share. If for any reason you do not want your child’s birthday celebrated, please tell a member of staff.
If you would like an extra session at playgroup please let the leader know. Weather you would like a permanent or temporary session we will try to help. Fees must be paid for any extra sessions.
